Other fibers include jute, sisal, silk, cotton and coir which are usually made into area rugs. They are eco- friendly and do not release any VOCs. Synthetic fibers are stain resistant and are much easier to maintain. They can be cleaned with stain treatment products or steam cleaning while natural fibers require expensive professional cleaning depending on the type of stain. Wool and nylon are the most durable carpets and can deal with heavy traffic, unlike cotton and olefin. Natural fibers cost more to buy and maintain and are sold at per square foot price. Busy homeowners prefer synthetic carpets for their low maintenance quality and affordable price tag.
